Im considering getting a powerhead for my 55G. What are the benifits of getting one? Do the fish enjoy the current it creates?

What is a good, yet cheap one for a 55g?

I looked at some on petsmart.com. Ranging from 15-20 bucks. What do you think?

if it for the 55g in your sig you dont really need one. The main uses are to run undergravel filters. Other powerhead uses are water movement (current) and you can add a sponge to some and use as a bio filter. other than that they just take up space.

the reason I said you really dont need to add one is because the fish you have may get sressed from too much current and may get tossed around. Have you considered just getting a air pump with a bubble wand or something.
The second one Eheim looks like it might be ok the output is pretty low if you are going to get one.

Yes i have that on the rleft wall of my aquarium. I just thought some fish liked somewhat of a current. Thats why i posted here to get peoples suggestions before i bought one :)

ok well that is what we are here for>:)

I have white sand as the substrate. So any little waste left behind by the filter settles on the sand standing out and makes things look ugly.

That is why i got a powersweep to make sure theres a current to blow the waste away and back up to where my filters can pick it up.

Only reason why i use a power head.

Powerheads make a lot of water movement/circulation and gives fishes a lot of oxygen..Some fishes might like the oxygen..I have 3 powerheads in my 110 gallon tank..
