Sorry if I sound like a broken record but I've spent about $125 on bio-spira trying to cure my tank's biofilter crash without any success. My latest attempt was today. Rather than using Ammo-Lock as my water conditioner I used prime following the dosage instructions (I filled the tank using 3.3 gallon buckets and dosed 0.35 cc's of prime into each bucket using a 1 CC syringe). My ammonia tested at 1 ppm prior to adding the bio-spira and still tests at 1 ppm 4 hours later. The bio-spira was bought cold and according to the shop, they received it from marineland last week packed with dry ice so I doubt that its dead. How long does it take on average for my ammonia to crash should things be working?

I've never tested it so soon after adding, so I can't help you with this :(

I usually make my first test 24 hours later. In your case, however, I can see why you would want an instant "fix".

Well its been 24 hours since I added the bio-spira. Ammonia tests still at 1.0 but has not gone up so I take that as a good sign. With the ammolock + bio-spira, ammonia just kept going up and up. With prime in, it stayed exactly where it was. I added the second pouch just now and hopefully that will bring it to 0. No nitrites have been detected as of yet.
