nothing you did caused it, and there's nothing you could have done to prevent it. it's just something that happens to people and animals alike.

Okay, there are a couple of possibilities with that one and those pictures are clear enough to tell for sure. Your fish for sure is very old already. It could be a malignant tumor but something tells me it is not. If it were mine, I'd be treating for a bacterial infection. That looks very advanced. The other possibility is that it could be viral but usually a viral infection will go away on its own. There is no treatment for viral infection even in people.

Your two real choices would be to treat for a bacterial infection or perform euthanasia as wataugachicken suggested earlier.

I agree with Lupin. I would try a combination of kanacyn and binox together, following directions on the packaging. The 2 ingredients you're wanting to use here are kanamycin and nitrofurazone. If the meds have no effect on the fish after one treatment, it would probably be best to euthanize it to save it from suffering.

I'm sorry to say that I agree it's irreversible. Even if malignant, it could be fatal based on where it is. How does she act? Does she eat? Before I made the decision to treat or euthanize, I'd watch carefully for those answers.

You could surely try Lupin's recommendation if you want to try to save the cory, I'm sure having had it for 7 years you've been taking excellent care of it. But don't let it suffer if you see no improvement. It does look like a tumor probably associated with old age.
