PROJECT 210

The picture you posted shows that the sililcone you bought is mildew resistant. This is bad, it means there are chemicals in it that are meant to kill stuff that tries to grow on it. I would imagine its possible that it could leach into your tank.

There are two types of Silicone I. The tub and tile stuff is mildew resistant, the door and window stuff is not. They are both Silicone I, and they both come in all colors including clear. I would not use the stuff you pictured.

Well I'm very disappointed but glad to hear. I guess tomorrow I will rip the thing apart and reseal using the right stuff.:wall:

It bothered me that it even mentioned mildew.

good thing i posted pics.

thanks bud.

I guess this is also a good time to ask...

What paint I can use to paint my PVC pipes black?

What paint I can use to paint my PVC pipes black?

I started to look into the same thing; but got impatient and just installed them as is - white. I might in the future get some artificial background plants and wrap them - make them look as if they are covered in vines.

As for the paint if you really want to do it - look for something suitable for potable appilcations. My research turned up Sherwin-Williams makes a couple diffferent products which can be used. Look into other 2 part expoxy finishes as well ..

He started with GE Silicone I, but got the got the Kitchen & Bath version with Mildecide rather then the Window & Door version that is truly just silicone. $7 difference can be well worthwhile for peace of mind.

Well last night I had to tear down my wet dry and remove all the silicone. I was hoping to just cut all the glass pieces out but when the first one broke I decided to smash the rest out and start all over.

I'm actually kind of glad I did. My cuts are cleaner this time around and the silicone job is definetly an improvement. Best part about it, it only took me about half the time.

$7 difference can be well worthwhile for peace of mind.

Exactly:grinyes:

I think someone should write up a post on whats aquarium safe and sticky it. Would make things a lot easier for first time DYI'ers like myself.

okay... aquarium is up on the stand and wet dry is built.

the aquarium is sitting on a piece of styrofoam on top of a piece of plywood.

we put in the bulk heads and hooked up the plumbing to the wet dry...

began to fill with water to test one final time and we noticed the styrofoam

under the aquarium was wet and the spot was growing.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

are my bulkheads not tight enought?:help:
