After becoming completely frustrated with the Penguin 150 (wheel won't spin, water is cloudy, etc.) that came with my tank, I decided to buy a new filter for my 28 gallon bowfront. I figured this would be a perfect time to try a canister filter! My goal is to moderately plant the tank and get either Celebes, Threadfin Rainbows, or Spotted Blue Eyes. But thats a discussion for another time! :lipssealedsmilie:

I'm hoping to get some opinions on which filter is suitable for beginners so I'm not wrangling with tubing for hours (although I can always call in for backup!). I am leaning towards the Filstar XP2, but these are the filters I picked out from previous discussions here.

Eheim Classic 2215
Marineland Magnum C-220
Rena Filstar XP2 or XP3

And of course I am open for suggestions. Thanks!

I love my xp series filters. THey are easy to use with the quick disconnect and self-priming. Most will say you cannot go wrong with an eheim either, but i have never used one to have as comparison. I have a mag 350 that I like alot as well. Basically, you have 3 great choices.

I would suggest the XP3 or Marineland C360 if a canister is the only filter present.

Marineland C Series, all the way...

I have a Magnum 350 Pro and I have a XP3, I would go with the XP. I picked up another 55 gal yesterday and plan on getting another XP3 tomorrow
