Okay, you guys sold me. I picked up some tonight -- am I the only one who thinks it looks like bread yeast? :) -- and am wondering where in your filter you are putting it. Does the bag need to be fully spread out? Ie: flat-like as if it were a sponge so that the water flows through it properly?

My magnum is supposed to be my mechanical filter, but it is full of coral. My Emperor has filters and sponges. Replace one of the sponges with "the Bag"? Or tuck it behind the sponge?

WOW, I just glanced at your signature and saw all of your tanks.... WOW that's about 3,000lbs of water in your house alone!

Anyways, I have mine in the wet/dry just lying on the bottom after the bio-balls. I also have a bag in my Magnum 350 =). Is the sponge in your Emperor used for mechanical too or bio? If it bio, obviously don't remove it. It is best to put this stuff somewhere after the mechanical and preferably after the bio ---- just something I read on another board that convinced me to purchase it =))))))))

Good Luck!

Don't tell me that! It's scary ;)

Two of the 75s aren't set up yet. One is going up this week and the fish are waiting in quarantine to go in. The other . . . probably start working on it next month.

Sponge is bio, but I have a sock full of aragonite and coral in there, too :)

I've got an Eheim 2026 (mechanical) for it that is just sitting because I haven't had time to install it. I can probably put the coral AND the Purigen in there, no?

The magnum is my travelling cycler. I stick it on the tanks I'm ready to cycle and toss Bio Spira in as well. Works great, but I guess it's time to move it to the new tank this week.

Thanks for the reply!

In my penguins, I stick it in front of the biowheel after the mechanical filtration. In my bigger tank it goes in the canister filter and does an excellent job. I just opened up my canister filter and saw that it looked like dark coffee so time for a recharge. It fouled up pretty quick but I assume it is from rotting vallisneria roots in the substrate. I just removed a ton of dead roots from my substrate today. The moral of the story is plants + salt don't always mix.

Roan, that canister would be a great place to put the purigen. I would put it very last in order of media placement for the best results.
I use it in my 55g. I put it in my AC500 in a large micron-mesh baggy. I put the whole jar(250ml) in the baggy ;) and laid it on top of the sponges. Works just fine there for me. That's enough Purigen to treat 250 gallons of water. Overkill? lol...

I have very clean water. :dive:

You know, it does look like yeast! I thought it looked like the little beads in the squishy pillows you at Wal-mart. It just feels different, almost wet.

I think I will put it in between the sponge and the filter that way all of the really big particles are gone before the water gets to the purigen.

What kind of vals do you have? I know there are a few that are very touchy-feely, but I only have caulescens and they don't seem to have a problem with salt (1 tsp per g thus far, knock on wood).

ROFL! I should say so!

So everyone thinks the cannister is best and to place it as the last media. Okay, now I haven't really even taken the Eheim out of the box as yet, so which is last? The top or the bottom?

Roan .... I'm not certain what else you use your Magnum for -- is it a 350? Anyways, FYI I have been picking up replacement micron filters from Petsmart.com for $7.49ea with FREE shipping! If you buy 3 items or more from their "Magnum Replacement Media and Accessory" link you get an additional 10% off.

Here's a link to their Free Shipping Shop -- LINKY

They have foam sleeves, valves, containers pretty cheap.

I can't find a flowchart for Eheim but I plan on getting the Rena Filstar. I would assume they all use the same flow so I'll post a link to show you the Rena.

The top seems to be the last thing the water touches before going back to the tank.

In my penguin I put the Purigen between the filter and waterfall.
