Python Water Changer: What to get?

I'm going to invest in one of those python gizmos as I've tired of lugging buckets back and forth and causing harm to potentially others. I've decided to cough up the money for a python.

I'll obviously buy the python in the correct length, but is there anything else I need? They have about 50 different accessories for it. Would I need a 'Brass Snap Connector' if I wanted to replace the plastic piece with a brass one? Is there anything else I should consider upgrading on it?
 
Yeah get some kind of adapter, because as of right now i have to first take off the faucet aerator, then put on the brass adapter, and then screw on the plastic connector on the tube to the brass end. Takes up most a minute, but it's still a hassle. Plus sometimes i cut myself with the brass threads on the adapter.
 
Also before you buy check out walmart, they sell the 25ft model for $30, if you dont need the 50ft.
 
I just got a 50ft from Drsfoster, less than $50. I got the brass adapter but it came with 1. The snap thing stays on the faucet (I think) & mine has to go in the kitchen, bathroom drains too slow.

I also bought an extra "pump" the plastic T thing, I'm not always the most patient/coordinated with that kinda stuff & I didn't want to have to wait if I broke it. I had hopes of attaching it to an extra showerhead but the threads are different.

I was a bit surprised at the gentle suction, it doesn't seem like our water pressure is low. Still learning, only used it twice. It works better to detach it after the syphon starts & throw it in the tub, wastes less water too.
 
I guess Pythons are worth the investment though, eh? I'm tired of bucketing water back and forth. Even on 2 tanks, a 29 and a 20, it's a major pain, especially since they're planted and I change ~50% weekly. I figure the thing might be a good investment later down the road if I get even more (or bigger) tanks.
 
just get a garden hose and a cheapo vacuum head from say your current vac, and a open/close valve...if you got ACE HARDWARE or similar..you can have a homemade python....you can get the sink attachment also...these are not PYTHON designed anyway...they just went to the hardware store for you,built,packaged, and shipped to your dealer for a total of $50.00 when u can make one to desired length for less than 20 bucks!!!! home stores also sell clear tubing which is what i would use...to see the poop or RCS i might suck up.
 
I am most certainly not mechanically inclined enough to build a TV stand let alone a homemade python. If you're like me and plan to buy yours from petsmart... check online first. Unlike petco, they match their online prices and my 50ft python was about $30 less online. Just something to think about.

Thanks! I just looked at PetSmart and they're the cheapest pythons around. It'd be about $10 more expensive to have them shipped here. I'm fairly passive though at stores until I get angry so I might have to back down at their death stares :grinyes: I'll just give the local PetSmart a call to make sure they price match their own online prices.
 
Is this the way a Python works? It uses a venturi from your sync to suck water out of your tank. You waste tap water but directly get water drained from your tank to the sink. Is that right?

What about for refills? Do you also use it for refills (assuming your tap water is okay) or are you back to buckets?
