I've been trying to price it out to set up a decent QT tank.
I priced a 20 gallon without stand (have one I can make work)
Heater, H.O.B. filter (Penguin model), Hood with cheap light in it, thermometer and 1 powerhead for circulation. I figured it to be about $150.00

Looking online I can get a Aquapod system complete for $155.00
That has a C.F. lighting (I will be QT'ing corals and the like)

Which would I be better off with?

Here's the quote from the Aquapod system:
"12 Gallon, 54W Compact Fluorescent System - Includes: Surface skimming filtration system, 1-27W square pin Dual Daylight 6700°K/10000°K Daylight bulb, 1-27W square pin Dual Actinic 420nm/460nm Actinic bulb, 2 blue LED lights, cooling fan, mechanical sponge filter, 160 gph submersible pump with flat nozzle, and complete instructions."

Opinions welcome as well as ideas.

I'm off to bed now, will check back later.

well, i'm new at all this, but the 12 gal aquapod seems like the better of the two to me. yeah, it's smaller, but the equipment is much better it sounds like, and if you're going to be qt-ing corals, then the lighting is something that you'd have to purchase anyway for the other tank (lights are pretty $$$). and the size isn't too big of an issue (unless it's some huge fish) as any fish you put in the tank will only be there short-term. and even if you decide to get a larger qt tank someday, that's a pretty good price for an aquapod it seems to me, and you could set it up as its own tank. that's just my viewpoint, hope it helps. good luck to you!

is this for fish or corals? If for fish, I'd not go that fancy at all. I bought a used 20g system..tossed the FW decorations and gravel...cleaned it and bought some PVC. Use an extra powerhead in there and done. The used system cost $30.

You can put corals in the system you said but I choose to not use the same one as I may have to medicate in the QT. Additionally I like a stronger like in the QT for corals I stock with because they need stronger..so will a future clam.

It will be for just QT fish or corals. Not at the same time though.
Unless I get some kind of untimely outbreak when a coral is in there or something. :headshake2:

What kind of filter and light do you have on your 20G setup?

One thing i did notice is the 12G doesn't mention a heater. Do you think this small tank requires one? I was thinking maybe the light would heat it up a little bit too though?
