question about betta's

:help: If you put a male and felmale betta togther can they still breed, if your not helping them? Also is it oky to feed a emerald green catfish (algea fish)wafers every day or should I do it every other day?

I have my female betta in with my other fish, I just got her now when I feed the other fish their food she wont eat it. SO I am trying to feed her betta food but she is not watching for it when I eat her. What should I do?

Thats dangerous advice they are giving then. I hear you can put females together but some might be too agressive to be kept with others.
 
You can put a female and male together - at least temporarily while the mate, if the do. If they do mate, take out the female out as the male will tend the nest.

If they dont mate, you must take the female out.

See here as a started for breeding. Otherwise, females and males should not be kept together. Females can be kept with other females and you should not attempt to keep males together unless you have a large (55G+) tank with a backup plan.

For the feeding, I tend to stay away from Betta only foods as a lot of times they are TOO high in protein and can lead to blockage. I feed my Omega One Kelp Flakes - and all the bettas love them. Yes this is primarily a veges food, but there is alot of protein and some meat (mainly meal) in them. I also supplement frozen blood worms (soaked in Zoe) and occasionally live black worms. A varied diet is a good diet.

Oh yah, as for the catfish...they live live foods, but most will eat bottom dweller carnivore pellots too - ie shrimp pellots.

I do not and have not had these fish, but I think switching their diet is better, to the shrimp pellots or live foods. You may want to make another post with this question in the topic to get better answers.

Bettas

Males and femles should be kept apart. i've heard the when the male starts building his bubble nest...that's when you should introduce the female. I've seen female Bettas in LFS together. There were like 8 in a tank. none of them were fighting because I think they had establish the hiearchy amonst them. Males as we all no should never be kept together. 2 Females..never they will kill each other as well. Good luck with the breeding.
 
I am not thinking about breeding I was trying to make room in my big tank to put more fish in it. But I guess that will have to wait. I am wait to see if I get 30g tank from my friend for free. I don't know what to do with it yet, I don't wont to mess with salt water fish. But who knows what I will do next!!! I just start this fish thing a month ago. and I have fell in love with it all
 
having a male and female together is asking for disaster. I've had good luck with keeping 3 females together. I had good luck with 2 of them, then I got a third one, the third one died (poor Spotty :( ) and shortly after the bigger of the original two beat the crap out of the smaller one (she's good now). So now I always recommend to get 3 if you want to go with multiple females.
I've heard that if you put 1 male betta with 3+ female betta's they do all right, that being said, I'm assuming it would have to be a fairly large tank and a fairly passive group of bettas, so I wouldn't encourage trying it.
