I am going to buy this

for my 40 gal tank.

question

does the filter have 2 go under the tank?
can i mount it beside it?
I have the tank on a table and I have run all my cords and power strips in such a manner that they cannot be seen and I would like to place the filter beside the tank where it cant be seen from the rest of the room.

The only problem I see is that i may have a siphon problem getting the thing primed?

anyone have any experence with this?

It's usually ok, provided that the filter canister is still below the water level in the tank.

ya as long as the motor is below the surface should be no problem

that setup is what i used to have and it worked fine. the only thing was that i had to put the water all the way to the top :duh:

My Filstar setup guide stipulated that the tank must be at least 24" below the tank for that particular model. So please check with the manufacturer and instruction manual for the final decision.

I once tried my Penplaxx Cascade 1000 at surface level and woulnd't work. It has a self priming button that will also work only if the canister is below the tank level. However, try putting it where you want: if it works, perfect. If not, redesign your set up.

Good luck, and stay away from some salesman lurking around here. :cool2: :cool2:
