I'm thinking of turning my 10g QT tank into a heavily planted invert tank (unless i find a nice small fish to use) and was looking at carpeting plants. I've got a layout with what plants I'd like to use, but was wondering how much hairgrass I would need to cover the entire bottom of the tank.

I know they're to be planted about an inch apart so i'm probably thinking 30 or so plants should do it. Is my math correct?

do you want it thick at first? hair grass is very thin if you can find someone to sell you 30 of them it really wont go far. the bunch i sell has 150-200+ plus some of them prob 300 in one portion.

the thinner you spreed it the faster it will grow in.

as for fish there are some really cool rainbows rasboras tetras and so on.

PM'ed on the hair grass. i definitely want a nice carpet to cover the whole tank. this is going to be a naturescape tank not a biotope like my other tank so it should make it easy to select fish...i am liking rainbows quite a bit.

it will spreed the question is do you want it thick at first or thin and let it spreed in?

yea lots of cool rainbow out there with amazing personality.

that's a beautiful rainbow! i had considered dwarf puffers but thought they would fight each other if put into a group. i guess i'll have to do a little more research.

I think I started with about 15 small dwarf hairgrass sprouts in my 29 gallon, and in a few months they had taken over the whole front of the tank. I never vacuumed that area because of the grass, so after a few years it was basically growing on top of a layer of mulm almost 1" thick. It seemed to stay greener if I never trimmed it shorter than 1 1/2"
