I have one and use it to drain water, but refill with a bucket so i can treat the water befor putting in tank and control temp, is there an easer way?
Am I making this harder that needed?

mine was given with the kank so i have no directions

You can use it to refill. Get some Prime, a water conditioner made by Seachem. Petsmart and Petco don't have it, you'll have to get it at a local fish store or online. It's the best conditioner you can find. After you drain the tank, you add Prime(per the bottles directions), and then fill the tank back up. Add enough prime to treat the entire tank(55 gal, so about a full capful), not just enough for the water you are putting back in(30%, 18 gallons, 1/3 capful). You can add prime directly to the tank.

and this wont bother the fish?

Nope. The bottle says "for best results" to add the prime to the new water before adding it to the tank, but this is if you are only putting enough Prime to treat the water you are adding. If you add enough for the entire tank, it's not a problem. Sure, a little may get wasted, but it's worth it.

I don't have a python. I do 12g water changes on my 30g, it would annoying to add prime to each buckets worth of water, so I just add it to the tank and then fill the tank up with the bucket.

great thank you, i had been adding per bucket, which is time consuming with a 55 gal tank cycling

Nope wont bother them at all...This is how I fill my 55g .... After draining dose the tank with Prime for the whole 55g then just leave the end of the Python that hooks to the faucet on drain and adjust the water temp close to that of the tank (I have an extra digital thermometer I use just for this) then turn it to fill after temp is good and sit back and watch :)

thank you, you have no idea how much time this is going to save me, i'll still prob syphon off i bucket worth for cleaning filter parts

pythons are awesome. i do my water changes now without a single drop of water on the floor, and no lifting. i love it!
