As many answers as possible would be great. I got my very first canister filter today in the mail!:headbang2:So now I have a question before I get it all nice and set up.

What I want to know is starting at the bottom and going up what media do YOU have in your canister? I want as many replies as possible so I can get lots of ideas. Please help! :D

I have a wimpy Rapids C-80 canister filter (80gph, really small.) I run it mainly as a small "extra" filter that I use in accordance with my RENA smartfilter 30 and my Whisper 60. The media in it goes from left to right, and I really only have 2 things in it:

Left: Seachem's Purigen with Seachem's the bag (purigen is like a special chemical media which is inside of a heavy duty aquarium bag.

Right: Seachem's Matrix (a bio-media)

A small setup, but I like it. I'm kinda obsessed with filters though! I’ve always wanted to own a full all out canister, especially the new Fluval G series! :hearts: Love at first sight!

I'm just curious for what other people use so I can get an idea. I have 3 layers myself but I want to know what everyone else has and uses just to get an idea of what options and ideas are out there :D

I have a SunSun with three baskets. The bottom two baskets are filled with a coarse floss pad topped with 2 inches of Poret foam and the top basket has Seachem Matrix and a bag of Purigen.

from top down you want coarse floss, next finer floss or polishing stuff, then your carbon if used and ceramic or bio stuff

for 3 baskets you can have first try have coarse flos and finer underneath of the coarse in same tray,..

Rena xp4:

top basket - triple layer of filter floss
2nd - biomax and then fine sponges underneath
3rd - double layer of sponges, medium density
bottom basket - double layer of sponges, medium density

rena xp2:
top - biomax and double layer of filter floss on top
bottom - medium density sponges

Ehfisubstrat or Seachem's Matrix (not the carbon, the ceramic media) for bio filtration, sponges, and occasionally floss or carbon. But always ceramic media and sponges :) The bonded white and blue pad are a great value, but for super thriftyness, a bag of PolyFill is like $3 and lasts you a year.
