Should my topoff water be the same ph as the tank? I'm using ro/di water. don't know the ph but its gatta be lower than the tank water ph. should I raise it with a ph buffer or is it ok if lower? thanx

I have changed how I am storing my RO/DI water.. I have bought a lot of aragonite sand and keep it in my bucket. It naturally raises the acidic RO/DI water to a more alkaline level. The only problem is going to be that my aragonite sand will slowly disappear and I'll have to replace it.

Thats not a bad idea. Didn't know sand would help raise the ph. But I just tested my ro/di ph and it toppped the scale on the FW low ph kit at 7.6 So I tried the SW kit (not sure if its accurate but it came in at 7.8 Its hasn't really been a prob for the ph in my tank, just that by the time I do a WC the tank ph is 8.0 and I thought maybe its the topwater I'm using. Maybe its just the natural buffers sre gone and its time for the WC. I do WC every sunday. No skimmer but I finally ordered on on Monday and it should be here tomorrow. I hope:drool: New stuff for the tank still gets me happy.:grinyes:

I just keep my RO water in a big 5 gallon Culligan bottle.

Keep mine in a 6gal bucket with a top to keep stuff out of the water. Like my dogs hair and dust.:)

where do you get your RO water?

about to cross over and start a SW tank :silly:

women ........... gosh!
wifey wants a salt water pretty to look at :wall:

Don't bang ur head cause I bet you'll like one too.:lipssealedsmilie:

I get my ro/di water from the unit I bought at thefilterguys. got this one.
$ 199.00 - OCEAN REEF + 1 FIVE STAGE 75 GPD RO/DI
http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm
check them out. I upgraded the chloramine filter as I have city water but I heard if you have well water you don't have to. Call them ask all the questions you want. They'll be happy to help. Tho you could prob get it from your LFS also, my LFS sells it for 59 cents a gallon.

I got a used one from a guy I ran into at my LFS $50. I don't adjust for pH.

500 gallons of fresh water and now a 90 plus 20 gal sump system for salt water ...

I am a bit intimidated about cycling and topping off from water changes.

I don't think a little top off will be a problem.
