Hey there. I bought 6 Zebra Danios a whle ago from a LFS for about 4 dollars. (No wonder they're most people's first fish) And I have noticed that they act like no other fish I've had before.

1. I know that Zebra danios are hyper little fishes, but they make my head hurt watching them swim back and forth in my tank. (It's 3 feet long so they have enough space.) Would this stress other fishes out? I have a Dwarf Gourami and 5 Neons that hang out where the danios also are.

2. Every time I feed them, they go nuts trying to find every bit of food. They all have full bellies so I know that they get enough to eat.

3. Every morning when the lights turn on, they start to chase each other and "wrap around each other" I'm not sure how else to describe it. I think this means they are trying to breed, right?

4. They all swarm up and nibble my finger if I barely stick it in the water. And it tickles.

Yes, they breed as soon as light appears in the room, Females can lay almost 300 eggs every 7days. If you don't have a coarse substrate most won't survive as parents, also shrimp, some snails, and filters are heavy predators on them. The average survival rate is said to be in the 90% region in a tank set up to breed them. They are amazing fish though. I absolutley love my Danios (glofish).

I have seen some very small babies in my tank before but they are quickly lost to preditation.

They are also extremley hardy.

yeah. danios are pretty psycho. some other fish are bothered by them. others will have trouble getting enough food to eat because of their aggressive feeding style. i wouldn't put them in with anything too slow or shy. they may also nip other fish trying to play with their fins.

I kept a few of these and also found the constant zipping around annoying. I think it stressed out my Rams so I found a new home for them.
