Hello,
I'm adding a 8 tank rack to my bedroom and looking for a larger air pump, but quiet. It will be to power 8 - 12 sponge filters in my guppy tanks.

I currently have a Eco Plus Commerical 3 in my fish room and it just so loud, I don't want anything like that in my bedroom. But it does power a ton of filters.

Thoughts on:
Whisper AP 300 Air Pump
ECO-AIR 4
ECO-AIR 8
Two Rena 400's
Others pumps?

Thanks,
Steve

Can you put it in another room and pipe the air in? Like a closet or in the attic or basement.

Piping it in is a good way to keep it quiet. I tried it a while back and found that the further you go, the less air flow you get in the tank... significantly less. I was going about 25' with normal vinyl air hose. Different / better / ridgid hose might help. I just ended up getting a bigger pump.

Check out the diaphragm air pumps here http://jehmco.com/html/central_air_pumps.html
I have the one that operates 6-8 sponge filters right now and it is very quiet. It is definately quiter than the two whispers I had running before.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I still haven't decided yet.
But it would be nice if more pump makers would list their watts
and sound levels (dBa levels).

Anyone have a webpage that compares these?

Just heard back from Jehmco.

They recommended:

LPH26, $194.50 – our linear piston pump, quietest of all. Minimum # of outlets is 12 – maybe too large for your set-up.
DAPMH20, $89.95 – Diaphragm pump can handle up to 20 high flow outlets – low noise
DAPMH15, $83.95 – Diaphragm pump can handle up to 12 high flow outlets – low noise

So I think I will go with the DAPMH15 or 20.
Does anyone else use these pumps? Thoughts please!

Steve
