I transfer the filtered water to buckets and large water bottles and move them inside after the rain event. Then I move the collection containers inside until another storm arrives.
You can put out the 44 gallon containers but of course if rains one inch you will have just one inch at the bottom of the container. It's all about surface area.

It is also important to collect from an open area where there are no trees,roofs ect.Drip-offs could collect debris from the surfaces they touch,and contain contaminants that could endanger your fish.
