For that age, I vote guinea pig. No tail or long legs to pull and less likely to bite if prodded the wrong way. Rats are great, but I think better for an older child. All of our guinea pigs made it to 7 or more years of age.

This is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Rabbits make ten times the mess of a rodent Ive had both. I am also alergic and can't stand cats. While Guinea Pigs can be a bit messy Rats are extremely clean and spend a great amount of time grooming themselves. They only time either are messy is when negelcted by there care takers which goes for all animals.ILOVEBETTAS said:I HATE RODENTS. Just get a fish like a betta instead or a cat or rabbit. Rodents smell and poop a lot and are terrible and messy. Please take my advice, or you'll regret getting a rodent. And rabbits aren't rodents...
OR GET A CHINCHILLA! If you NEED a rodent, chinchillas are the coolest.
