So at first, I had trouble getting a vaccum started, but now I can. My tank is high up on my dresser, and my bucket is maybe 4 feet below it on the floor. If I try to start a vaccum, it always goes with gravity, so the water goes from my tank to the bucket, even when I'm trying to get new water in teh bucket to the tank. The only way to get water back into the tank is to hold the tank high up, but it is very heavy, so I had to put it on a chair, then add phonebooks, etc. How can I get this problem solved?

get a python. gravity doesn't really matter then. one word of warning.....take the gravel vac attachment off to add water....silly me, the first time i blew the thing off and out of my tank, water everywhere, husband not happy.
You can either get a python or similiar vac that hooks up to the sink and drains and fills from the sink. Or just get a couple of 2 gal buckets. I use 10 1 gal juice containers i've cleaned/sterilized in the dishwasher and i fill them up a day or two before the water change that way they are close to the tank temp and the cloudiness from the tap is gone
I did the same thing already. I took it off and experienced a similar situation. But any suggestions for the moment being?
I know that you said the tank is up high, but is there any other reason you cannot just poor the water into the tank? Maybe I'm confused.
it was really quite funny. now i just wedge the hose between my tank and hood. only about 20 feet from tap to tank...this old woman can run that far!
the chlorine is gone but you still add conditioner before pouring in to remove chloramine and anything else. I dont like to fill w/ the python cause i worry the fish are exposed to chlorine during filling/ plus you have to dose conditioner to the whole tank instead of just new water. plus it seems a little easier to keep temp close. I keep the water by my furnace and it is usually about 72 degrees when i put it in
