i just got my red cherry shrimp today, they are small juvies from msjinkzd, i got 10 in my 2.5 gallon tank..my questions are--

1. How long until they become sexually mature?
2. There is a ton of java moss in the tank, what and how often to i feed them.
3. About how many can i have in that tank with just some MTS in it?
4. Um. do i need a small pot in the tank for them to hide, breed, and molt in?? i have a big shell in there from the beach, (boiled and washed)

If i have any more questions ill post them on here, please help a newb :thm:

ok, so for feeding, its every 2-3 day, one pellet per 10 shrimp? the pellets i have are shrimp pellets and there about the size of the shrimp now, there little guys, i also have algae pellets. should i do that every once in a while? what about zucchini
 
I don't like algae wafers. They break down and make a mess. If you use them, use 1/4 of the algae wafer. They like veggies as well. Just feed sparingly. One of hte biggest mistakes new shrimp owners make is overfeeding usually resulting in fatalities. So feed less than what you think is right.
 
good point, ill just put a tiny part of the algae pellet for my snails, and the shrimp pellets every 2-3 days, and what do i do about the veggies? boil them or what?
 
you can blanche them (or microwave a small piece for 10-15 seconds). i generally remove the seeds as they can make a mess.
 
I got 20 RCS about a month ago and now I easily have around 40 in the tank with 5 berried females right now and 2 more that are saddled. My shrimp are in a 29 with some assassins snails, ramshorns, pond snails, and MTS. I feed the tank every day. I either drop in 3 Hikari sinking wafers and some Crab Cuisine or I drop in 3 small slices of snail jello. Right now, the tank is unplanted with a piece of driftwood in the middle and a bunch of rocks to the left and right of it. As soon as my canister filter gets here, I'll set up the C02 system and some anubias and corkscrew val will be going in the tank.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I don't worry too much about overfeeding my shrimp because the snails in the tank pretty much take care of the food. The shrimp get to eat whatever there is before the snails finish it all up. Talk about snails. They come out of the wood work in the evening at feeding time. Since you have MTS in your tank, they will do the same. You might see the MTS population increase if you overfeed, but that isn't too terrible of a thing.
 
You can also break up the food into smaller pieces and spread them around the tank so all the inhabitants can get a share of food. I do that too because my snails will just dog pile over the food and the shrimp just wait around for the snails to be done.
 
Agreed. I drop in a bunch of crab cuisine or shrimp pellets with the sinking wafers or snail jello. The pellets get distributed all over the tank and the wafers/jello get dropped in three spots. The snails usually head for the wafers/jello and form a huge pile on them and the shrimp head for the pellets. Sometimes, the shrimp will sit on top of the snail piles and catch whatever is floating upward.
