Hi Friends,

Today I bought 10 Leleupis of about 1" size and these look just plain brownish / rust colored. They look some thing like these -

but still duller and brownish. I was expecting them to be yellow ! Kindly guide me if they will color up and turn yellow when they grow a little or are these not the yellow leleupis ?

Also kindly guide me regarding the growth rate of these fish - are they very slow growing fish or will they grow up fairly quickly ?

Please guide me Friends...
Thanks and Regards
Kush

Can you show us pics of your leleupis? Because those you are showing us now, look pretty good to me.

Leleupi range in color from bright yellow to orange to dark brown. I have some in my dwarf Tang. tank some of which are orange, some are dark.

Yep, Mark is right...and orange leleupis are really stunning fishes; I have seen a few unbelievably beautiful.

Most of the Leleupi in the hobby are the Bulu Point morph because they maintain their yellow color when adults. Some other morphs are yellow as juvies but turn brown as adults.

The natural part of a Lelupi is that of brown but like was said you have different variants some will fry up really nice yellow and some will stay rust color brown so it may be hard to tell what you will actually have til they get a little bigger which you will know soon because they tend to grow faster when in larger systems and not as much a slow grower like Calvus or Front's

Hi Friends,

Thanks a lot for the kind replies. I guess I'll let these guys grow-up a little and then see what happens...

Anyways, also wanted to request you for a kind guidance - I'm trying to convert my 212 Gallon tank in to a Tang / Malawi community and the current inhabitants are -

16 Frontosas - Biggest about 7" and the Smallest 3"
11 Leleupis - About 1"
6 Bristlenose Plecos - about 1.5"
7 Electric Yellows - about 2"

8 Serpae Tetras - which I plan to remove but cant catch them in a Net... these guys were intended as food but my fronts wont touch them

Lots of Ghost Shrimps - again intended as food but my fronts wont touch them

4 Zebra Loaches
4 Zebra Nerite Snails

Friend just wanted to request you to kindly guide me if I'm over-stocked or am I ok for now ? Also will it be ok if I add a few Cavus and Julidochromis to the tank ?

I also plan to add 2 or 3 Duboisis and wanted to know if I may - kindly guide me Friends...

Thanks a lot !
Regards and Care
