rena xp3 or eheim pro 2028

use the eheim for mostly bio filtration with 1 tray basket as mechanical and use the rena as mechanical only , try out some seachem purigen in the eheim as well it is freaking amazing stuff

I would keep the Eheim canister and exchange the XP3 for an Emperor 400. You will have enough money left over for some Purigen/Chemi-Pure/BioChemZord to put in your caddy in the Emperor. I would only put mechanical and biological filtration in your canister - that way if you need to medicate quickly, you're not looking at having to open up your canister to pull out the carbon.

Like shane here, I would buy an emperor 400 and an Eheim 2217. Trust me, this is an awesome filtration combo.

Do the Eheims come with all the parts to install with tanks which do not have built in overflows? I wouldnt mind adding in some extra filtration before I get stocked. I would probably go with a Pro II 2026 ... also importantly for me how much noise to they make?

There is nothing "professional" about the eheim pro series. They all serve the basic purpose of filtering your water; neither of them do a particularely better job of filtering.

Not sure what exactly your compering them too... better is a relative term. They do a much better job than many other options.

Derringer - forgot to say also the 2026 is extremely silent. I only spent the money because it sits about 3' from my head when I am sleeping and I just couldnt take it with two other filters I tried, well that and there reputation of course.

XP3 is awesome, I have it on my 55gal discus tank because theyre messy and demand impeccable water quality. For the rpice of 75 on petsmart.com, you can not beat it. XP3 has my vote, although Eheims are quality also, but more expensive and I dont see it being worth the extra money in my case.

forgot to tell you, entrer xp3xp4 as code when you check out to get the price of 75.00! I dont think itll last much longer, make sure the deals not up yet.

I think I have plenty of filtering as it is now; but more couldnt hurt! I had seen lots of members here posting about how great the eheims were - so I figured I might get one of those too. ...

I was just curious if they come with everything need to set them up or if additional parts would be needed. If they only come with the intake and a spray bar I think I might want to get something additional.

Eheim filters are a lot better than other filters. though when comparing different eheim filters, I see no difference.
