Weird.

I don't suppose many aquarists will go to the trouble of putting one of these together. But I had to see if this system in Vietnam really worked.
The first video clip shows it doesn't.
After enlarging their picture I noticed the feeding hatches are built on a line with the water in the 2 holding tanks. The glass from the tunnel extends below the water level of the holding holding tanks. So what they have produced is a very clever "optical illusion" as far as the water being held in place by the vacuum sustaining the water level in the overhead tunnel.
Not really suitable for home aquarium systems.
But I got to build another tunnel and learn more about construction techniques.Made the lower tank from "safety glass".2 sections of glass with a laminate of clear plastic in the center. You need to score the glass on both sides to make a clean cut.
I also found that that the 6mm glass used for the tunnel [15cm square] is very often thrown out by glaziers as off-cuts from windows too small for commercial use.
Romaurie.

I don't understand what you mean by optical illusion. It looks to me like they have done what they set out to do and that is to allow people to get up close to and feed fish through the side of a big fish tank.

The original video showing the 110cm glass tunnel linking 2 X 40 litre aquariums is on YouTube. The principal of this giant public aquarium is the same.A much larger vacuum pump is used to evacuate the cross section. The vacuum also prevents water coming out the feeding hatches for the fish.

I particularly like the quote from Arthur.C. Clarke on their site: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".I remember the book that came from.

I wonder about my "Junior" member rating.I have been keeping water-life in various forms for the last 53 years.Started with something that crawled out the newt pond on Southampton common.

:screwy:, your rating has nothing to do with how long you been keeping fish but how long you have been a member here!

I might also say that the age of the fish keeper has nothing to do with their level of expertise that would relate to their knowledge of how to properly keep fish in home aquaria. I am totally sure that some of the young people on this site can put to shame some 60 year olds even though the amount of time they ahve been keeping fish is vastly different.

Actually the first video clip shows THAT YOUR ATTEMPT AT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!

though your goldfish lilly is very fine looking fish

I agree with the post above me they set out what they set to do and make it so that people could have up close interaction with the fish

there's dog bowls that work like that and they don't use a vaccum......??
