i have been trying to find a replacement for my serpae tetra's, and i think i have. I am thinking of buying Rummy Nose Tetras.

Does anyone have thoughts/comments/experience they would like to share on these fish???

If so, thank you.

They are one of my favorites. Just be sure to get them from a trusted source and acclimate them well. They are a bit more "sensitive" than alot of other tetras IME.

im actually going to buy a school of these next week. They are incredible schooling fish, probably school the best out of all the tetras. They are also indicator fish in that their heads will grey out when the water conditions arent up to par or if they are stressed.
Also, be ready to acclimate them VERY carefully into your ESTABLISHED tank. They are fragile. I recommend bringing a 3 gallon bucket to the fish store, asking them to fill it 1/3 with their water and the fish. Bring em home and use the drip method with an airline tube tied at the bottom so as to only drip fast drops of water into the bucket or however long it takes to fill the bucket almost full. I'd say an hour no longer.

Also cover the bucket while transporting fish home so no light gets in and when youre ready to net them into the tank make sure all lights are off over the tank.

would it be a really bad idea to order them from liveaquaria.com?? the online store?

Keep in mind that there are 3 species which are generically referred to as "Rummynose tetras". They will school together though.

i like rummys. i just picked up 5 and am thinking about getting some more; the ones i got are TINY.
