Run on Zithromax...

I had the nasty respiratory bug nursie mentioned this weekend. I am pretty sure it was viral because I came down with my fever, etc., halfway through a course of Zithromax that was clearing up a sinus infection left over from a cold a month ago. What a bad season this has been for bugs... we've had several run through our house this year.

And thank heavens for Zithromax. I'm allergic to sulfa, and amoxycillin and erythromycin both give me horrible GI problems. I'm trying to avoid taking antibiotics whenever possible...what happens if you become sensitive/allergic to all or most of them? Seems like it could be problematic...

As mentioned earlier, I just got over a nasty bug that laid me up pretty bad.

Nursie, you will apreciate this one. Zithro doesnt do anything for me so I used Omnicef (cefdinir) which worked good for me. Here's the the thing that went bad durring this bug. I had a pretty bad caugh so the Dr. gave me the good stuff which is Hycoclear tuss (vicodin tuss). You take 1-2 teaspoons per dose. The first night I took 1 teaspoon which was the first mistake. I am in the 20% that Vicodin wires. I Didnt get any sleep that night. The next day I took another teaspoon which almost put me in the hospital. My body didnt like it and reacted in a bad way. My temp dropped 3 degrees in a short time and I went into a cold sweat. :thud: It took everything I had to not pass out until I finally "ejected" the substance up the same path it went down. This a little scary to say the least. It was explained to me that my body reacted to the medication by dialating the blood vessles in my body to pass it through faster which is also a way to make you lie down whether you want to or not. When the blood vessles dialate, gravity plays its own trick and sends most of your blood downhill creating the dizzyness, hense the passing out thing. Needless to say, I didnt take any more of that caugh medicine. :eek:
 
Nasty reaction to the Hycoclear for sure. The first time I had it, I had been used to a more watered down variety. I read the label and thought 1 teaspoon..ha, that will never do it. The other part of me that was taught to follow MD orders won that time and I took the prescribed dose, thank goodness, the stuff knocked me on my a**!! It just knocks me out, or makes me rather loopy.

Jim..you get people who have long lists of antibiotics they are allergic to. Usually there is one they can fall back, sometimes they give them meds to counteract the allergic reaction so they can tolerate the antibiotic for treatment, but that would only be for an infection that absolutely had to be treated instead of run it's course.
