i was in the petstore today and almost bought mollies but a group of paltys won me over. mollies and platys looks very much alike dont they
They sure do! Although I like mollies better because I feel like there is more variation...you never know what you are going to get when babies are born!
Very nice looking fish.. though they look a bit interesting to me.. I think there may be a possibility that they are 1/2 Balloon Molly... they look just like my balloon fry did when they started growing.. and even though they are in a tank with all sailfins.. the mother could have breeded with a ballooon male a long time ago-- they can lay fry 6 months after getting impregnated..
Not real likely.. but a possibility depending on how long you have had them...
Either way.. beautiful fish
I've had the mother since June. I guess there is a slight possibility, although it may only look like it because I take pictures after feeding time and their bellies are always big.
Really nice!
I love mollies, and have been considering getting a pair, but the whole salt debate has been putting me off. Do you put salt in your tank?
No I don't add any salt. I read an article on mollies that said they are sensitive to water quality/nitrates and that's why salt seems important to their health..I think it lowers the toxicity of nitrites/nitrates. I do weekly 50% water changes and have never had a problem with my mollies.
lovely mollies! they have like a pearl-scale effect.
Thanks! One of the reasons I love them so much are the blue shimmers they have on their tails and bodies. :grinyes:
