Scalped my Beta

Melafix it is. Thank you all for your help.

Are you sure it won't hurt the bio?

Melafix is made with tree tea oil extract and hasn't been known to affect the bio ("good" bacteria) in aquariums.

I did exactly the same thing a month ago. I left everything normal as if nothing happened ( i know i shouldnt have done that) and eventualy the betta got better.

My betta had the same thing happen to him. I think he went out through the hole in the top of the coconut and got caughts. It's healed now, although the scales are a bit darker there....

Yeah, half dose of Mela to help it heal. Watch for a patch of white stuff to form on the wound (it would be fungus) and treat accordingly if it does. Otherwise he should heal on his own. I don't advocate increasing the temperature, as you are increasing the chance of a bacterial infection if you do.

The only time you should ever add salt as a medicative to a tank is when treating for parasites.

Yea, I did a 70% water change before I put the Melafix in. His color improved almost immediately.

I found a bit of fin missing on my betta, i think he tore it off on some plastic plants (which are now binned)

I did 10 days of Melafix and after 1 month there's signs of regrowth. :D

I read that salt does not go well with a planted tank.
