Can you narrow your question a little? What kind of info do you want to know? Yes there is a brackish fish called a Scat, it is actually a genus. It consists of 4 known members, the Green, Red/Ruby, Silver, and African. They all start in brackish water and migrate to saltwater as they age so they will need to be in saltwater as adults. They are a schooling fish which means you need a bare minimum of 3 of them. They are a rather large fish attaining any easy foot long some up to 18". They are a herbivore so need lots of algae and the like in their diet. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck!

I've had my silver scat for a little over 3 months and since i got him he's grown to over double the size! He eats most of the food i put in the tank, barely leaving any for the other fish. Nice looking fish, but real skittish...he goes crazy most of the time when i go near the tank. He's the largest fish in my aquarium.

yeah my wifes Green Scat never stops eating. It's an amazing appetite they have.

Lucky guys you people !! I bought four scats this sunday, and already two have died :( I wonder what would be the problem. I have a 50g FW tank with a peaceful community.
Any ideas ?

well your first problem might be that you have them in freshwater. they are brackish water fishes as juvis. perhaps the place u got them from had them in brackish water and u putting them in fresh might have done them in. other than that perhaps they were sick when u got them.

Pano-your silver scat is probably skittish because he is alone. Get a school and he won't be skittish.
suby7272-did you get the fish (impulse buy) then ask the questions? If so then I agree with oscar in that you are paying for it now. As I said in my first post, these are Brackish fish and do not do well at all in freshwater. They are not a freshwater fish. So either you need to set up a new tank just for them or you need to return them. REPEAT- Scats start in BRACKISH and REQUIRE SALTWATER as adults so if you can't provide this you should return them. Scats need a salinity of at least 1.008. Otherwise they will get lymphosystis(sp) which is a common problem with them. What is your water quality? Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, pH? Anyway, hope this helps.
