schooling colorful non-fin-nipping fish recommendations?

i have tiger barbs, and even though they are considered, fin nippers i have found that they don't bother any of the other fish when i keep them in big groups. i keep them in a group of about 10 though, so they generally don't nip.

Tigers with an Angel is not a great idea IMO. They are cool fish, but tankmates are limited.

i have to disagree with that because i had 6 tiger barbs (2 have since died) housed with an angel before i had to get rid of the angel and there were never any problems with nipping or whatever. if you had one or two tiger barbs with an angel then yeah there might be a problem but if you keep enough they seem to stick to bugging each other. as of right now i've got a pearl gourami in with the tiger barbs and they don't bug the gourami at all. i find that if you have fish that are bigger then the barbs then there isn't a problem. if you introduce fish that are smaller then the tiger barbs get all "big and powerful" and thats when the chasing and nipping occurs. thats the experience i've had with them but they really are a tight schooler and the males have really cute bright red noses. i love mine and would not trade them for anything!

Erin, experiences will vary. However, in general, we do not recommend the mix for the sake of the angelfish. Have you even seen or heard both species coexisting in the wild? I don't think so. Regardless of the size of the angelfish, tiger barbs will still nip them assuming we do not count those who claimed success over this mix,

Experiences do definitely vary and fish do have personalities (a statement that still makes my friends look at me weird). I personally break the "standard" Gourami advice with no problems at all, but wouldn't necessarily advise someone else to do it. I love Tiger barbs, I think they're great fish and while they technically shoal the effect is definitely impressive.

IMO, theres a good chance when the angel get a bit bigger, the cardinals or white clouds might start dissapearing.

rummies, on the other hand, get a little bigger, plus they school better and i love their colors.

I have an assortment...neons, black neons and cherry barbs (3 males and 3 females). By far the black neons stay together the most.

Harlequin rasboras are great schoolers and glow beautifully under light! They are also compatible with angelfish!

I just returned my red serpae tetras as they nipped at my angel far too much. They were VERY colorful though... I need recommendations? I want something that schools but are peaceful and hopefully my angel won't devour.

just a question, how many did you have in the tank??

I never said anyone was wrong, just that I think you could be successful with keeping tigers and angels. thats all....i disagreed with it, and you (and others) obviously agree with not keeping angels and tigers. that was just my opinion and i think you need 2 sides of the story to make a decision.
