i made my own gravel vac for $0.72.
4ft of 5/16i.d. 7/16o.d. clear vinyl tubing from lowes @ $0.18/ft
empty bottle of water, free.
cut a hole in the bottle cap roughly to the size of the vinyl tube (doesn't need to be a perfect circle, the tube will form to your hole)
cut the bottle across about halfway.
stick tube in bottle cap, voila.

Yes, but you end up with sharp edges and with a lot of bottomfeeders it's just a matter of time before you hurt one.
it's a gravel vac. when i vac, the edges are into the gravel. not a problem for me, as my bottom feeder is smart enough to stay away from it anyway.
not like you couldn't put a wide rubber band on the edge, but i guess it would be better for some people to pay $6-20 for a tube.
