I know this must go on all the time but I was still enraged! :mad2:
I was in a large pet store the other day (rhymes with PetCart) browsing the fish dept. A guy walks in and starts picking out fish. The dept. assistant kept putting different fishes into baggies, puffing them with oxygen. I counted 14 bags with several fish in each bag. I asked the guy why he was purchasing so many fish at one time and he replied that he was "putting them in my new 50 gallon tank." I asked him how long he has had the tank and he replied "I got it last week". I 'started' to get into the cycle etc. but decided what's the use? I'm gonna stand there and educate him in the next few minutes? Not to mention the fact that the employeee probably knew less than him (or didn't care) just "SELL THOSE FISH!"
This guy is destined for discouragement and a tank FULL of fertilizer.
What a drag eh?

I still would have told him and maybe saved a lot of fish :thud:

Though doubtful, there is the possibility the tank is cycled. I have bought complete setups with filters, minus any fish, that were running the day before with "their" fish. Moved to my house and put in fish that day. Slim chance, but a possibility.

The same thing happened with my 90.... I intentionally had him not clean the filters or gravel and it didn't have an spike whatsoever

I added my own water and had it filter and heat up for a day than added my 5 orange tetras and my pleco... a month later they are all healthy

wow...........................................................:( poor fish.....

I once watched a petshop employee bag up 75 1" fish (platys and the like) plus a dozen cory cats (since catfish do not count towards bioload...they eat waste, you know) for a couple's brand new 75 gallon tank (had been filled that morning). I felt sick knowing what the next 96 hours held for them, but was in a hurry and could not stay to intervene and explain.

I told somebody about that at my petfo and they said it didnt matter because they have a 14 day return policy what the -ell

Isnt the petstore eating that cost though? You'd think they would loose money after replacing 75 fish at a time because they died in a few days. maybe they make enough profit of 1 fish to cover thier cost for several maybe. Also, a lot of lfs around here is 48hrs or less.
