sensitive baby bottom?

We tried the cloth diapers on my son for the same reasons. Actually mad him worse. We made the same recipe mentioned earlier as that is what we don in the hospital ( I work in a neonatal intensive care unit). But what we finally found was triple paste....called triple paste....It is essentially the same as the recipe, but is a much thicker paste that really provides a nice barrier. It was worth it's weight in gold!!!

triple paste is definitely a god sent when you need it.

bless you, steph. NIC-U has got to be an emotional place to work when things go south. takes a special type of caring person, i'm sure.

steph... while we've got you here, what wipes/cloths/soaps do you guys use in the unit?

show me the way, master.

So what I did with my dog was I crate trained him and I would take him outside a lot. When he did have an accident in his crate I would clean it out real good, but since he had to sit in it for a bit he learned pretty quick that inside (and thus all over himself wasn't a good thing).

Yeah, so basically I'm saying you should crate train your baby and teach it poop outside.

pure genius! i have no idea how i've survived all this time without you.

can i call you dad?

LG...
lol, it's not always that deep. i've always thought it sounded downright geeky and nasal on phone recordings.

i'm going to have to agree about the hidden chemicals. my first two weren't exactly "sensitive" that i knew of, but i have to say this guy going from his skin wiping right off to never having a diaper rash speaks volumes. with my daughter, if her diaper wasn't changed immediately she'd be raw in no time and we'd be fighting to straighten it out. embarrassing to say the least should someone witness a diaper changing. i felt like a neglectful parent perpetually. god forbid we didn't dry her bottom before putting a diaper on. what a mess! with this guy now, if the wipes are too wet, no worries... the diaper will soak it up... and we've had no need for diaper rash cream, baby powder or anything... at all! what a god sent!!!

another thing i considered was cloth diapers and wipes. i looked at that all throughout searching for the "dry wipes". there were a few downsides that turned me away, though...
1) tea tree oil - i react very negatively to this and it seems to be in everyone's recipe for cloth wipes.
2) mineral oil - also in everyone's recipes - although it's edible, i see no reason why oil should always be wiped on a babys bottom... the idea of a wipe is to get them cleaned, not oiled up, IMO
3) carrying a spray or squirt bottle everywhere to wet your wipes - seems counter productive in some situations.
4) carrying a cloth covered in baby droppings everywhere until we get home isn't appealing by any means
5) if i were to pre-moisten cloth wipes i might have to re-make them twice a day to keep up with demand - screw that, lol
6) i'm really not interested in doing the extra laundry associated with "the cloth". not sure once that's all said and done that there's much savings monetarily or environmentally, either.
7) i think there's maybe something i'm forgetting...

i have come across a couple of those brands IIRC, but i'm very leery of products that use "natural ingredients" until i know what it is that's the difference. i'm reminded of "free range" cattle for example. what is it that makes it "natural ingredients"? i know i pay more for them, but am i getting more/safer from them? it's not always the case and we needed something better than cotton balls desperately by the time i found the right disposable washcloths. i'm glad you posted about them here, though in case someone happens across this in the future. i've noticed you're pretty aware when it comes to the safety of products, so i really appreciate your input.

Mad...
will do sir, will do. you can bank on it.
The tea tree oil is in most "natural" baby wipes, yes and MANY natural products because it is a wonderful thing (unless of course you have a reaction to it ;) ), because it is anti bacterial, anti fungal, fights viruses, and so much more (did you know it was actually given to soldiers in their safety kit in WWII) I have used it for many things (being a mother of 5) it cleared a very bad case of ringworm, and head lice...took care of them with NO chemical pesticides. Tea tree, lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus are all oils I am never without.
As for the mineral oil...yeah I'd never use that (or baby oil) on my children, it actually is refined petroleum and can be very dangerous (I know people say/think...baby oil is made for babies how is that dangerous), but if a baby inhales it into their lungs they can actually die from suffocation believe it or not! It isn't something that happens often no, but it is something that does and has happened, one story I read had me in tears...broke my heart. Once it is inhaled into the lungs there is NOTHING a doctor can do. For me personally, I see no reason to take the chance there are just to many other oils you can you if you feel you need to use oil on your baby (Sweet almond oil is perfect).
I haven't used them (but plan to try them) but the 7th generation company does have diapers that are suppose to be better because they do not have chlorine or other chemicals they add to the disposable diapers. They even have chlorine free bleach (bleach is another thing I will not use). I have looked over many of their products and ingredients in their products and they seem pretty good (although for you I'd watch for tea tree) many natural skin care, shampoo, cleaning have tea tree (it is also known as melalucea oil) but I think only one company lists it as that.
You do have to be careful when looking into "more natural" because lots of times they are not, it really drives me nuts that companies are allowed to label products as natural or organic when in fact they are NOT, it's just wrong...someone who wants to take chemicals out of their life as best they can, and trying to make a change can be so misinformed if they do not actually look into the product before buying it.

Oh, hey I wanted to ask if you mind me posting your video on my FB page and twitter account? Just so others who may be looking for an alternative like that can see it too?
