in my 55gal w/ a rena xp3 i got:
2 rosy red minnow, 2 streamline minnow
4 bn plecos
4 neon tetras
5 sterbai cory
5 ottos
5 serpae tetra
a few rcs

well i really like my serpae and i was considering buying 5 more but then i was at petsmart the other day and i saw the black skirt tetra and was like "oooohhhh" and now i just wanna get 5 black skirt tetras instead.
do the black skirt tetras grow to about the same size as the serpae? bout under 2 in?
do black skirt tetras school together like the serpae do? any chance that they would end up schooling with the serpae?
should i just get 5 more serpae and 10 black skirts???

side question:
where can i get more of the small neon tetras? petsmart and petco only have the jumbo ones that grow to 2 inches wheres mine are stuck at like under an inch??

I would go with 5 more serpae and 10 black skirts, having those two schools would be awesome. I don't know if they'd school together, but my glowlights often school with the serpae when they can keep up with them.

theres also these two fish my cousin used tohave that look like serpae but where more stubby and a tad bigger... one was bright pink and other bright blue and they were both hella fast... i want those guys again.... if anyone knows what im talking about, you think theyd tear apart the rcs? cuase they seem like they would

Black-skirts grow just a little bigger then Serpaes.

I agree with Jannika. Increase the school size.

Look into Black Phantom tetra, they are kind of in the same group looks-wise as the Black Skirts and Serpae. Very eye-catching as well. I may be a bit bias though ;) here's one of mine.

They are nice!! IMO they look better then Black-Skirts. I have a dozen in my tank and I love them. They even bred in my community tank and one of the babies survived!!

I like Jannika's advice too. Get some more Serpaes.
They also look great schooling with Glow-Lite Tetras, or Lemon Tetras. Rummy-noses or Cardinals are also super in a school - as are Copper Rasboras for a little diversion away from the tetra line- one of my favorites - and they school in the top part of the tank. 10 or 12 of those would look superb in your 55 gal.

oh wow that looks amazing...

cept i dont think petsmart/co sells them for a dollar :/

I have 9 black phantoms too I love them. Looking for some females, they're always showing off to each other but it's not going anywhere, lol.
