Setting up Malaysian Biotope(with pictures!)

5 gallons, David. It's a bit of a stretch, but I aquascaped it specifically so all the gouramis would have territories and I'll be monitoring the water parameters.

Happy, Happy, happy day!! The cube is reading at 5.0 PH. Now I just have to figure out water changes. I have two options: what bigwave suggested, or making the bucket experiment work. Yesterday, it tested at 1.0 NH3+ with no nitrate. I was really sick of testing so I didn't test the nitrite(because of the review I just wrote).

PS, This is going to look really sweet when done. I'll post a short video and/or pics later, when it's dark, to show what it'll be like when the hood is corrected.

Excellent tank marisa! Im jealous!

wow this is so cook, i just read everything right now... nice progress its gonna be hella nice, lico gouramis are sweet..

I'm going to try to split this hood. If not I will get one of those clip on lights from home depot.

Thanks toods and Vader :). The bucket experiment was at 4.0 ammonia and no nitrite yesterday. I'm beginning to think it's either too cold(no heater) or that my stupid mistake of not acclimating the bacteria like I did with my sponge filter have something to do with that.

So the gouramis are drip acclimating right now. In catching them I knocked over the hardscape of my ten, which was really aggravating, since I was very satisfied with it, so I'm sort of sulky right now, lmao. It took 20 minutes to catch the first one.
I'll post a pic of the gouramis drip acclimating later. I dumped prime in their water to make sure the ammonia doesn't instantly become toxic when it hits the harder water.

Edit: For kicks I googled "Malaysian biotope" just now and this thread came up as the first hit! Thanks to you all(seriously) for reading :):)
