Setting up NEW Shrimp Tank, Need Advise

I don't think it's a good idea to mix cherry shrimp and crystal red shrimp. They both prefer totally different water parameters. One of the species will not be happy and will not breed as readily.

I have cherry shrimp and I found another shrimp species (green shrimp) that also like the same hard water as the cherries like.

I tend to agree, though there are folks who have been able to keep and breed both in the same tank. My water trends to a higher PH (about 8) so I keep shrimp that do well in more alkaline water. CRS really prefer a PH below 7 from what I've read.

It works for some but I find it's a better idea to find shrimp that are more compatible. Especially considering Crystal red shrimp are sensitive. I mean I really wanted CRS but since my water is really hard and has a high Ph I decided to find a more compatible species to keep. Just me 2 cents.

I am starting my cherry shrimp tank again I never had any luck in the past 2years had over 200 and never got them to breed. Tank is 7gal, 501 filter with sponge on intake, moss ect water temp 76-78, ph 8.1, kh 5 83.3 ppm, gh 20 400 ppm has any1 ever had luck breed in water condition like mine?

Well did have 200 at one time had around 30-40 in the tank but had bought 200 is the 4months of trying to breed. So the kh and gh aren't to high I see some post that said with high gh the shrimps could not molt and would die is that true?

okay sorry for taking so long to update the thread, hope I can still update it and get feedback ;)
I'm planning on getting a sponge filter, then mixing some of the gravel in my 29 gallon with the gravel I already have in there. That has been up for a few months with LOTS of fish in it. Then putting in some guppy grass or water wisteria ( I have a giant hydra in there now, might move that out.). Then adding a couple of platinum molly babies ( I have 25+) or a swordtail fry or two.
Then I do water changes and wait two weeks?
Then I plan on adding Java, Taiwan, or Willow or some kind of moss for the shrimp to much on, and some SHRIMP!

Does this sound good? Anything else?

I think that sounds great. Instead of using gravel I would just rinse out my dirty filter media in the new tank once I had the new sponge filter up and running. I think that works better than gravel because all of the gunk goes directly onto your new filter instead of being stuck in the gravel where it doesn't get as much water flow.
