share your story on how u got your pet (non aquatic)

i thought the very same thing lmao

My daughter saw a picture of a chinese crested for sale in our local online used classifieds. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted this dog. She had already emailed the lady and everything.

So I took a look at the add and the price was reasonable $600, but, not in the range as I had just spent my fair share of money on some tanks. Well it seems that no one was really to interested in a hairless dog and the price went down to $300 at which point I got ahold of the lady and told her that my daughter had fallen in love with this dog and that I had to get it for her.

So when my daughter came to the restaurant after school that day I told her that we were going to get her dog on the weekend.

It turned out that spike was basically brought in from georgia along with 2 female powder puffs for one reason. So that he could live in a kennel for much of his life and reproduce and basically be a cash cow. His mate had 3 litters by the time she was just 3, so pretty much heat and inpregnate.

Spike was totally indrawn when we got him and it took my daughter a whole year to be able to get him to bond with her as he did in this picture.

That's a wonderful rescue story!! I think those dogs are THE CUTEST little things!

Both of my furbabies were rescues from inappropriate homes. Buddy(Shih-poo) came from a household which reminded me of a hoarder in every sense of the word and poor little Psycho(Tabby) came to us at only 5 or 6 weeks old, starving, with his poor tiny tail broken in too many places to count! :irked: Broke my heart! Buddy is 11yrs. old now and Psycho will be 8 this June, healthy and happily spoiled rotten. ;)

Tubbins (cat) was given to me as an 18th birthday present from a high school friend. Alexis (half pit) came into my home thru my sister. She was at the time dating a boy named Paul. Alexis bounced from his best friends house to his mother house back to the best friend and then his sister and back to the best friend. She always lived in very cramped quarters and wasn't properly cared for. At once point she spent her days in an apartment bathroom only to be let out in the mornings or evening to do her business. The best friend had to move and didn't want to pay the animal fee for the place he was moving into so my sister and Paul took her. It was right at the same time that they're dog was going to the vet to be fixed. I volunteered to keep her until she was healed from the surgery but Alexis just never left. She lost 30 something pounds in the first few months she was with me. She's now dropped probably another 30 or so in the last year after tearing her ACL.
Rufus is a Walmart cat. I worked in automotive at the time. A car came in for an oil change and when they popped the hood their was a litter of kittens in the battery box. One went home with me, a few went to the animal rescue and another went home with another co-worker. He was VERY shy, would barely eat and HATED being handled. Now he cuddles constantly, is still a bit wary of new comers but will only eat if I'm in the room which is odd.

come on! any more stories to tell?

My boy, Shane, was a rescue that my aged aunt and uncle (and their youngest grandson) adopted. Don't know anything about his life prior to living with my aunt and uncle, but I know they had him about three years. Basically, he was my uncle's dog. Sadly, my uncle died about 18 months ago. To make sure aunty was okay -- bills paid, food to eat, clean clothes to wear -- I started going to see her at least every other weekend. (She lived about 100 miles from me.) At any rate, over an 18-month period, Shane and I bonded. When my aunt fell and broke her hip at the beginning of February, plans were made to move her to Texas so she could be close to her daughter. Unfortunately, since she had to go to a nursing home for an extended period of time to heal and rehabilitate, and since my cousin didn't want the dog, I inherited him. He's the new love of my life. I've been taking him to the dog park, trying to socialize him to other dogs (he's terribly intimidated by them -- even the little ones). It's been a slow-go, but he's definitely making progress. We went yesterday for about 45 minutes, then I took him for a fairly short "cool down" walk. Boy, was he pooped last night!!! Wouldn't trade him for the world.

I have always had cats as a companion. when I went to college I didn't keep a cat..
my wife loves cats.. for Valentines day 20 years ago I purchased a Seal point himalayan for her. (Nikko)
Nikko just recently passed away.. most of the rest of our cats are rescues.

the exception are the Ragdolls..we have simply fallen in love with this breed.

IVE GOT 4 CATS.
here are their stories.

Stripes, the oldest, was a rescue from the SPCA, he is so cute, although at one point he was so fat that even he knew he had to lose some weight.

Snowy, the second adoption, was also a rescue from the SPCA. He was aparently given to them as a kitten and we loved him so much. He is currently going through the "so fat you dont want him on your lap" fase, and he is on a diet.

Skipper is almost as old a stripes, but was our 3rd adoption. She comes from an old friend, and has a very bad attitude to our next cat.

Midnight is compleetly black, even his wiskers, and has yellow eyes. He is also fat (lol) and is always jealuse of skippy for being the first one at my moms house. He is so cute, here is a pic:

My dog Aussie was a pound puppy. I saw him there in April 2004 when looking at cats with my BF at the time. There was something about him, but I was living in an apt where pets were not allowed at the time (I had Kitty but the landlord didn't know about her). When I moved in June, I went back to the pound, only wanting him. Amazingly he was still there (and this was a kill shelter). I've had him every since. He's gone from crazy wild untrained ADHD dog to an agility dog with several titles. He's also earned his CGC certification.

Kitty was a rescue. I actually took in her mother and the litter of kittens when the kittens were just a day old back in 2001. I found homes for all the kittens except Kitty. I kept Kitty and her mother Callie, then Callie decided she'd rather be a barn cat. So now I only have Kitty cat wise.

My parents dog Carson was a stray I found running around my apt complex. He was about 4 months old and absolutely terrified of people, someone had done a number on him. He'd been running around the area for over 2 weeks (found this out after I caught him, friends had seen him around) and body scale wise he was about a 1.5. His hip bones and spine felt like they could slice right through his skin. I spent 2 hours in the rain bribing him, then he was full and ran away. I was able to catch him the next morning with the help of Aussie by cornering him against the fence.
