Besides just being gross  , is there any harm in (for example) using a cup to scoop water out of your tank, washing it (by hand or dishwasher) then using it yourself? I would think TB would be the only far fetched risk, but could that be cleaned away?

If it was properly cleaned you won't have a problem. But cleaning it properly by hand may be difficult, using boiling hot water or steam, even if you use disinfectant there is a minute chance that all the pothogens will not be killed. If you look at the way that medical utensil's are cleaned most of the time it is done with steam. That being said Imo and Ime I believe that if you do a reasonable job on cleaning the cup with very hot water and disinfectant you will be fine, that is if you can handle the fact that you have had it in your tank before cleaning.

I just wash mine in the dishwasher if I want to use it later. The water gets very hot and the detergent I use has bleach in it.

I am constantly using glasses in my tank to get water to dissolve this or that, or start this, or woopwoop. Then I just toss em in the sink. (they eventually end up in the dishwasher, buts thats a story for a different time.)

Try getting margarine and when you finish that save the tub for fish tank stuff. I have one I use only for mixing my fertilizers for my planted tank in.

I always use cups as well. Put it in the dishwasher when I'm done in the tanks... I don't think I've ever been sick from it.

I use cups and put them in the dishwasher. I have never been ill form it. If the other way round I rinse the cup loads as my dishwasher detergent is seriously strong (one of those that leaves everythinig smelling of lemon) just to make sure i don't put detergent in my tank

i have set aside a measuring cup for my fish tanks, buy a cheap dollar plastic cup from a dollar store or walmart for them

Ewww. I would never so that. I always wear gloves, a resperator, a Class 3 Haz Mat suit, and a full face shield when Im working on my tank. The risks of TD and other things we can get from our fish is just to high.

Ok, so I lied a bit. I still wear gloves and a mask because dead fish smell :D But for my own safty I keep human and fish far apart. Seperate glasses, spoons, etc.

you actually wear a mask??? If there was really a high risk, then this hobby wouldn't be legal. I don't really see tank water being that much different that the water in a stream, river, or lake... all of which I have swim in (and I'm sure swallowed a little) and I have never gotten ill from it.
