I've recieved many snails shipped in a wet paper towel or swath of wet cotton balls, inside an air-inflated baggie or a tupperware with breather holes, packed in a box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap. I think that's the best method. Minimizes shell damage and keeps the snails moist and happy.
