This tank is an hour and a half away from my house and i wanted to know if you guys think it is worth $100?
The only thing that really gets me on this tank is the lights.
You see how in one of the pics it is all open, could i get shocked?
What would happen if water got to it?
the only problem is i have been looking for a tank for the last 6 months at least and this is the first thing i have seen that i even considered.
By the way on a few of the earlier tanks i have found before this one if i tried to lower the price they would say no. Then on top of that someone else woud buy it in a month or two for the asking price.
I have been looking daily on recycler and on craigs list and not much for the san fernado valley.
The stand could use a ton of work. A new coat of paint may suffice for a time, but it would really benefit from a complete strip down and repaint. The light hood could use a new piece of plexi. Somewhat cheap. As for the lights, looks like a set up for plants. A new bulb in the empty slot would probably take care of your concerns there. (Is that a blacklight bulb?) The filter "looks" to be in good shape along with the power head.
Hmmm ... I'm no expert by any means, but I am not convinced its worth $100. A used xp2 filter couldnt possibly bring much more than $20. The power head, maybe $5. That particular stand, I wouldnt give $20 for (it needs to much work). For the DIY hood. $40 in parts to build it new. Used? Maybe $15 in the shape it's in. That leaves the tank. I got my 55g for $50 new. I couldnt see paying more than $25 or so for that one used.
I'm only up to $85 and that's being what I feel is generous.
Just my opinion.
EDIT: And dont forget to add in your gasoline money. A 3 hour drive round trip isnt cheap anymore.
It doesnt "appear" to me to be a shock hazard. As long as you replace the plexi, the hood should be fairly water resistant. The missing bulb is nothing to fear. Just put a new one in there.
