Should i strip down my tank?

I have just lost my last fish to tropheus bloat and i am wondering should i strip down my tank and thoroughly clean it as well as the gravel and rocks before adding another colony and if so what should i do with my filters so i don't lose the bacteria?

bloat is an intestinal issue resulting from poor water quality, feeding inappropriate foods, stress from crowding or insuffivcient numbers of animals in the appropriate sized tank. stripping your tank will not solve the problem ... better care will.
 
If you are trying to say that i caused the problem you are wrong, the fish where purchased in that way (29/01/06) and from day one they didn't eat and showed the classic signs of tropheus bloat and after 3 days they started to die so before you go pointing the finger find out the facts next time.
 
He didn't point his finger at you at all...

The conditions the tropheus were kept in before they reached your hands was where the problem is.

But like he said, bloat cannot be contracted out of the aquarium water. Tropheus are VERY sensitive towards thier diet and you should drill the previous owners to make sure the fish were kept in complete health BEFORE you buy them. If you are buying from an LFS, you should ask them to run tests on thier water before you buy them to make sure they are not living in terrible conditions. Ask what the fish are fed daily, and where they came from.

Lots of LFS will stuff thier fish with crappy 'cardboard' flake food just to keep them alive for cheap. Not all, but lots.

I'm assuming you've thoroughly researched the water and diet requirements for tropheus previously. Take a look at the causes and symptoms of bloat so you can help prevent them in the future (and also be able to spot them at the LFS).

Apologies if i took the statement the wrong way it's just that i did everything you are supposed to do as far as food and water quality goes and i lost them i have even being back to the lfs and they aren't prepared to do anything so i have just lost £266 and have an empty fish tank no sorry i have a 2inch bristlenose so forgive me if i'm a little touchey.

so your LFS wont give any sort of credit? They dont have a "gaurentee" on thier fish?

Another opion in the future is to hold the fish at the LFS for a week or two before you take them home.

If they are still in good health at the LFS after a couple weeks then they should be good at your house. This is what we do with saltwater fish now, we never buy right away. We always get them to hold the fish for us.... we say it's cus we cant take it home today but really we just want to make sure its healthy and eating, etc.

The lfs said that they where feeding in his shop, which if they where or not i don't know and that he warned me that tropheus where not the easiest fish to keep so its tough, but the funny thing is i purchased 20 when i got them home one was dead in the bag and my friend purchased 8 and when my second one died 20mins later my friend lost one and everytime i lost one my friend had lost one the same day, coincedence, i think not.
 
They should give you some sort of credit. Most LFS around me have a 1-2 week gaurentee on thier freshwater fish, provided you give them a sample of your water to make sure your not killing your fish with ammonia.

That sucks. Tropheus are not easy but dont just DIE on you like that.
