Ok here's the deal, I have been dealing with ICH for the last 8 days by using Rid-Ich and daily water changes. So far I have lost 3 clown loaches and a bala shark. Now some of the other fishes still look like they have one fin in the grave. I went out and bought salt without iodine last night and don't know whether to switch to salt or keep up until I run out of the Rid-Ich..

The temp in the tank has been around 84 degress for the last 8 days also...

Thanks

No carbon to remove, have a wet/dry..

Great article...

Heading towards salt but still not sure...

Don't let something like ICH convert you to saltwater- each tank has it's diseases that are common. You could very easily run into the same problem (a fish-killing disease) with a saltwater setup. On top of that, you already have an established tank just needs to get the ICH out of there.

I'm not saying saltwater tanks are bad (in fact if I had the money I'd start my own) but you'd be better off saving yourself the trouble for now and treating the tank. A lot of research and other factors enter into SW tanks (though I don't doubt you've done a lot by now, right?) and to me it'd be easier just to keep going with what you have right now.

Sorry if I confused anyone

My question was whether to switch to using salt as a treament and give up on the meds...

It sounds like your other fish may have been pretty weak already and were too far gone. The salt and heat treatment works when followed and make sure to keep it up for at least 1 week after all the ich appears to be gone.

ok then salt it is, my next question is other than the slow drip, what other ways are there to add it to the tank.

I was planning on mixing the right amount of salt in a five gallon bucket and then slowly adding to the 65 gallon tank over a time period....

Sound good or deadly to the fish??

I'm sure there are alot of opinions on this. When my lfs adds salt they simply dump the correct amount ofrocksalt into the tank. It dissolves over several hours (pretty much the same as a slow drip). That being said, in my tank I would use a little more caution. Dissolve the salt in a 5g bucket filled with dechlored water and remove 5g from tank. Add maybe a gallon every hour or so.

That's fine.
