3ml. flourish excel every day and 2ml flourish twice a week on water change days. i change 40% twice a week
this second one is my 10g. i threw this together pretty quick for Sid, my spotted climbing perch. got the driftwood for $2 at the LFS and attached some of the java fern from my other tank, trimmed the rotala from the 20 and threw it in too, as well as the red ozelot swords that were getting way too big for the look i wanted in the 20. i also threw in my dying wisteria that got overrun with algae and i had to cut most of it off, so i'm seeing how it will do as a floater. then i got about $4 worth of fairy moss and frogbits and put them in, and Nursie sent me some sunset hygro so i split it up and put some in the 20 and some in the 10. this tank is not planned at all, i just threw everything together, but i really am liking the overall "feel" of the tank. its got a very mysterious feel to it with the floating plant roots hanging down.
for lighting i have one 15w GE plant bulb, and one 15w 6700k bulb that came with the light strip i got at a yard sale. no ferts or CO2 or excel yet, since the floating plants are blocking most of the light from the others.
This tank was started with the 48 plant assortment from aquariumplants.com. That mad grower on the left is Hygrophia corymbosa stricta. It's threatened to break the surface twice since I started this tank last month. Another interesting story is the Myriophyllum aquaticum (parrots feather). It was growing so fast that I decided to snip the stems in half... some of them I snipped in thirds. They restarted from a height of about 5 inches and have all reestablished. It's been 13 days and the stems are now 8 - 10 inches high. It's a good thing too since my fish like to nibble at the feathery leaves.
A one liter DIY yeast/sugar using a glass diffuser keeps C02 levels at 15-20ppm. I've found that a drip doser (upper left) makes an easy job of supplementing lost nutrients throughout the week.
Another couple of weeks and I'll have to start removing plants. It's getting a little crowded for my poor Angles.
