Shrimp suicide

The plot thickens.

I'm anxious to know what is going on here too. I'm not super experienced but if it were my tank, (if you are currently using tap water), maybe do a large water change using RO water instead and see if that helps?

=\ I hope you figure it out at least!
(OT: What kind of gecko do you have!)

Hrm... Never thought of that.
I frequently have to boil rocks to sterilize them at work. Maybe we should think of a different method.

If you do use RO water be sure to mix it with conditioned tap water because aquatic life requires trace minerals and stuff found in tap water but is removed to make RO water.

@Jspigs
For this tank I don't use RO water. Purely tap water.

Although at my shrimp tank at work only use RO but add trace minerals.

How is boiling rock dangerous?
The possibility of introducing drain cleaner is safer?

Yup, boiling rocks can make them explode. The drain cleaner tests to make sure the rock isn't too acidic, vinegar makes sure it's not too basic. If neither make the rock bubble then it's okay, just scrubbing the rock off (and not using a lot of drain cleaner or vinegar) and it's fine to put in the aquarium.

Well then I stand corrected.

Two 50% water changes later and.... the mysterious goo has lessened and my tank has returned to something I can see from end to end. There are still a few strands hanging out in my riccia that I can't think of a way to get rid of without ripping it apart.

Thanks for the thoughts. The battle continues tonight.

i get this in a few of my breeer tanks.... its a filmy looking substance almost like a oil. i havent really bothered to much with it as there just some of my breeders.... i have found that its because there is not enough water flow.... not enough air flow for a sponge filter, ect. i also have abig problem with this in a tan that for somereason gets a butt load of algea.... this is prob related to the not so ideal water quality....

tryin to make that sound like my tanks are not dirty.... mainely because they rally arent dirty.. its just that one tank

do you have a lid on your tank? Maybe it could be some dust w/a low water flow and some bacteria build up, I get this when my filter gets slow and clogged

No... I don't have a lid on the tank. The papyrus that I grow in it doesn't allow for it. It could have been... That would've been an awful lot of dust... I wish I had pictures that are worth sharing.
