Shrimp

bblboy54 - Amano and Cherry Red shrimp eat algaes that snails and catfish ordinarily cannot eat - filamentous algaes such as hair algae - along with the soft green types that snails and suckermouth cats prefer. So they are in fact broader spectrum in their taste and control. Plus they can work surfaces that cats and snails can't or don't - fine-leafed or threaded plants (Marimo balls, Java Moss, needle-leafed stems, etc.). For glass, small suckermouths are better.

my kribs take turns beating the shrimp to death then eating it. at least they're cheap :D

Hmmm where did they go? I had 4 ghost shrimp, I saw one last night....and I don't see any today. None stuck to the filter. ;( umm did the two Pearl Gourami I also added have lunch? I've only got platies, 2 small swords, and corys.

I have a few ghost shrimp in different tanks mainly because I have heard they are good for helping keep a tank clean. My question is what fish are good with them and what arent. I was just about to put some in my goldfish tank but now maybe I wont since I just read this thread? Right now I have one ghost in with 2 red rainbow sharks and some type of a barb but want to add 2 angelfish and maybe a butterfly to that tank. Can I expect to see this ghost shrimp dissappear now... when I add those other fish... or never? I also have one with a beta.... and about 5 others in various tanks with community fish. I dont have any in my cichlid tank (I know better).

Any suggestions on where Ghost Shrimp are safe and not?

From what I have heard and read, as far as GF and ghost shrimp is hit or miss. I don't necessarily think they are in danger but you never know what might happen. I had like virtually no cover, no hiding places for my ghost shrimp so that didn't help. I think if I had some cover/hiding spots for them they might still be around.

But I also heard that amano's grow bigger (and are better cleaners) so maybe you might want to go with those with your gf.

But this is just my opinion based on things I have read and heard, I am still too new to give licensed opinion :o

RTR is one of the ones who knows his/her stuff though from what I have read on the forums, so going by RTR will more than likely steer you in the right direction.

13BRAVO

PS - RTR is one of many btw so I hope no one else on the forum was offended. RTR, oriongirl, daveedka, and leopardess are just a few of the ones who obviously know there stuff!! For those that I just haven't remembered in this small blurb, nothing personal, I forget my own name half the time!! :D

All shrimp are masters at hiding. Amanos are masters at walking away from open topped tanks, but usually only when first added. Survival of shrimp with fish is unpredictable - some combos you swear would never fly do fine for some folks, not for others - there are too many variables in tank setup and fish individual personalities to predict much.

In my tanks, Ghosts are bigger than Amanos.
