Update: Shy female platy all by herself in the corner of the tank

Hi, I read another thread about a platy not eating and being off in the corner of the tank who died, it got me wondering if this will happen to my Sunset platy.

I got the platy's about 4 weeks ago. Orginally 7 platys. (4 male, 3 female)
And then returned two male, for another female. Now I have what is in my sig. 1 male, and 2 females of each kind.

25Gal tank
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0.3
Nitrate ?
Hardness 6°dH
PH ~7.6

Im worried she might die. Is there anything I can do to "cure" her? She doesnt eat even when I feed her. All the other fish seem to be happy.

Yeah, that was the reading before I did my ~40% waterchange, forgot to menchion that...

The thing is, All the other fish seem happy and active, while she doesn't
 
Hi,,,, your platy is acting the same way mine was and it was a female. She wouldn't bother with any of my other fish, and I took notice that the last couple days before she died she wouldn't even eat anything she would just let the food float by her, not even attempting to grab at it. Where all my other fish were fine as well.
To this day I have no idea, what happened to her. She had real good color in her and everything,
Just keep an eye out on her. Hopefully she will work through whatever is wrong, but mine didn't. I came home from running some errands and I found her nose up in a bush.

wish i could help. but i have the same problem. i have one female platy that stays all by herself. i tried to introduce other platys, but she chases them away and has even tore up their fins. so i returned them to the lfs. she doesnt attack any of the other fish. just platys! she doesnt eat often. maybe about once a week she'll finally decide to eat. most of the day she just hangs out under the leaves of the amazon sword. i guess my platy needs a fish psychiatrist...or Dr. Phil to work out her issues.
 
Well, she might be off trying to release her fry or she is just stressed. Do you have any cover in your tank? a great plant that I promote on this site for live bearers is hornwort. Its a very cheap and easily found at petshops. It grows in every state so its a pretty easy to find. You can stick it in the gravel but I just prefer to let it grow on the top of the water column. It also provides food for the fry as well as other micro critters live off the plant.

I doubt that she is trying to release her fry. I have had 3 other females get fat and give birth, she doesn't interact with anyone, and is smaller then the rest of the platys in the tank.
I have heard about hornwort, and I plan on getting some for my 5 Gal tank

Platies are schoolers, so basically your fish might have a internal parasite. Give your platy some crushed garlic, the should be buzzing around the tank constantly.
 
I, too, have a shy female platy. She pretty much stays in hiding and sort of head fakes other fish like she's going to headbutt them. She's actually the biggest of my platies and, despite being so antisocial, has actual given birth to a couple of litters (or whatever they're called for fish). And, in terms of being healthy, I recently had a columnaris outbreak that wiped out all my fish--except for her. I'm guessing as long as she's not hiding constantly, she's probably just on the shy end of the spectrum. If you sneak into the room do you see her swimming about? I can usually find mine that way, but she hides as soon as she sees me. I'm not sure she's ever really forgiven me for netting her in the past.
