I have two eheim Pro filters (2026 & 2128) that are side by side out in the open. Both are almost 4 years old and I'm amazed how quiet these filters are. I recently bought a house and I don't have the fish tanks on their stands, so both filters are out in the open. Right now is night time and there is complete silence in the house and you could only hear a very low humm when you are standing next to them. I cannot compare them to any other filters because I haven't own any other filters except for hang on filters. To me noise level is very important and these filters definitely very quiet.

My 2026s (have a total of 5 of them) are as close to silent as you can get. No doubt if you have air entering your lines they will be noisy, but if they are primed correctly without any air - you will have to listen very closely to hear them.
I have two Rena XP3's and they are both very quiet. You can't hear the impeller rotation unless your head is right beside the canister.
i have a eheim 2213 that i just found out is 8 years old, absolutly no noise at all, great product, there wasn't even a nooice when I dry ran it for a couple of seconds when i bought it, lol. even their line of hobby pumps, all purpose pumps, mini pumps, aquaball systems, and power filters are dead silent if installed proparlly, yes at one time i have owned all of the list above.
They are very well made products and one of the few brands that i will buy the first generation of, i. pre serial number 1000.
Oh and as for the silent test the one sound that doesn't drown out the near silent purr of any eheim product is maybe a pen drop a hundred feet away.
