simply annoying and wont listen

Maybe this is just my academic side speaking but what about typing her up a little info sheet that explains what a cycle is and the need of tropical and cold water fish. Maybe also include a list of compatible fish for a 5 gallon, 10 gallon, and 20 gallon, in case she decides to upgrade eventually. This way, if she's bored she can pick it up and read it. Also, you don't have to tell her you made it. Just be like" Oh, I just visited this great new fish store in (blank) and they had these great handouts. I grabbed an extra one for you because I know your interested in fish etc. blah blah blah"

it is pretty sad to see them in such an overcrowded, gross, and unfiltered tank, but going in there and taking them will likely lead to legal issues.

the best way is to take a proactive response. Bunny13's idea was a great one.

you could also refer her to here. just tell her that we'll help with her cloudy and smelly water. which we will.

lol i love the stick idea, but for now im thinking bunny13s idea of typing up a cycle/fish keeping sheet would be best. i can take all the info i need from the site, and put at the bottom about try visiting www.aquariacentral.com for all your aquarium questions. as far as i know she is on the internet.

still finding the stick idea quite tempting though ;-)

Unfortunately for the fish, you can't change someone's mind. If they don't want to listen to you, that's too bad. Sometimes you have to wash your hands of the whole thing for your own sanity. Just let your neighbor know if there are questions, you are available.

Scoop & return, scoop & return, scoop & return... Endless :)

I like this idea too!

A mod should add a poll, I'm with you on this one...

Although the stick idea sounds tempting, it would be better to just give her a printout on cycling a tank. That way you will not get yourself into legal trouble either. The rest is up to her.I know it is frustrating but in the end that is all you can really do right now.

Ok, since we cant whack her ith a stick, which I still think is a great idea BTW...

explain to her that the tank does not need a HEATER, but does in fact need a filter. Since anything that creates an organic waste stinks (like a litterbox stinks like ammonia so will the fish tank) maybe then she'll get it. Ask her why coldwater fish dont need a filter, and see what she has to say. of course if it had a filter, it wouldnt smell as bad..
if that doesn't work, I have a yard full of maple trees...

Just curious though, how did you find yourself involved in this? Were you over there, or did they ask your opinion?

I have a yard full of trees too and you can have any stick you want if it will get the point across.
