Sink My Driftwood

BTW I hope no one else has to buy 25 pices of driftwood as it is very expensive

Don't have to buy it, I just go to the beach, creek, river, lake and collect it when I need it. . .

Collecting it when it is already water-logged helps a lot, but I've never had any piece that did not sink within a couple weeks of soaking.

I alredy had quite a few pices of malaysian driftwood and wanted some variatey so I got some other types for more of a variety.

The malaysian drift wood does sink right away.

Okay, this was not such a great idea.

I put the driftwood in a bucket, and i noticed that it sunk right away, so i put it into the tank.

Now my water is dark from the tannins, but my fish do look alot more comfortable, their colors are just amazing.

Need to do a water change...or maybe not.

Eventhough it will sink right away it is still best to boil it to get out all the tannins I would do a 75% or better water change asap and make sure you have a good charcol filter to help clear teh water

I've never been too patient with driftwood, so I learned to screw to the UGF (in a new setup, of course) or simple tie it to a large piece of glass. Glass is heavy ans will almost always sink the wood to the bottom. After 2-3 weeks, I remove the wood, un tie the glass piece and ti will sink right away.

BTW, I will hijack this thread: what's tha difference about driftwood and bogwood?

I boiled my piece for a couple of hours each day for about 3 days. It was almost completely water-logged when I put it in the tank and I just leaned a rock against it and it's stayed down for a long while now...

I really wanted some driftwood for my tank. I thought about going to the lake a few miles from my house, but more likely than not I would only find pine and I really don't have time to be going to the lake anyway. So, I ordered a piece of Malaysian driftwood from Ebay. I opened the package and found a beautiful knarled piece of dark wood. I filled a clean bucket with hot water and put the piece in to let it release some tannins. I expected the wood to float, but it sank straight to the bottom. After soaking for 2 days, I've been tempted to just put it in the tank because the water is barely stained. However, I think I'll boil it tonight and add it to the tank tomorrow.
