that is gonnna be the real deal for me making sure i dont over load my stuff an end up flippin a breaker in the night an end up killin stuff

Surprisingly, a tank's draw is very little, depending on lighting of course. For example a Fish-only 100gal with 3 canisters(20wattx3), powerhead for circulation (8watt), Normal Output fluorescent 48" strip(40-80watt), so total would be 150watt at max, without heating.

But you can always run two strips, if you exceed 1800watts. But I would only worry, if your running multiple Metal Halide lights, and a chiller on a Reef tank.

Yep, a tank uses a lot of power, but very low current. I have my entire tank running: Eheim 2128(with included heater), Magnum 350, Stealth 200W, 208W lights, and CO2 solenoid....all on one circuit. Uses a lot of wattage, but, like I said, very few amps.

during a power outage I would simply remove the lights to conserve on energy, plus the powerhead as well. I would think that if you have 3 canisters on a 100g tank, that would be plenty of circulation.

i have no mh or chillers lol i have 6 tanks filtered by a 6w air pump i have heaters in them but again they dont come on often. the real thing that sucks up power is lights. 8 20 gals with 55w 4x65w on a 85 192w of t8s on a rack with 6 tanks.... 450w on the other rack.... right now my lights are drawing from 3 different plugs. i know i am drawing from at least 2 circuits. other then that i have a 5-6 ac filters and a couple xp3 filters going on.

55W *per* 20gal tank? Or one 55w light? If that's per, you've got a total of 1342watts of *lighting* alone. That by itself should ideally be split onto two circuits, if available, simply because it leaves almost no headroom. The filters are essentially negligable(ac30 is less than 10w, most filters are less than 20). Now, the heaters? Let's hope for safety's sake that you do indeed have this all set-up on two circuits.

For your own safety, I'd recommend finding out for sure exactly which circuits you're using(head downstairs to the breaker panel). Following that, find out what *else* you're running on those circuits. With the heaters included, you'll likely eclipse 1800w without a hiccup; Not something you want to just plug into whatever you have available.

On the other hand, if it's only one 55w light then you can shave about 400W off that total, and you're probably in the green for even one circuit. I'd still recommend splitting the load, though, just to save you headaches in the future if you ever want to plug something else in.
