So hows about them REDSOX!!!

"Who's Your Daddy" is directed at Pedro Martinez. After his last game against the Yankees in the regular season he was beaten pretty badly as he had been in his last couple of meetings with them. In a press conference after the game he said (paraphrasing) "I guess there's nothing left to do but call the Yankees my daddy and get on with it" He was, I believe sarcastically, saying that he couldn't beat the Yankees. Of course NY fans jumped on that in a second and started the "Who's Your Daddy" chant, t-shirts, etc.

David Ortiz is Big Papi. The team started calling him Papi for reasons already mentioned. The Boston fans added big to it because, after all the guy is like 6'5" 230 lbs. Sorta fits.

DeVitaf- I'm giving serious thought to pressing attempted murder charges against the Red Sox for those two extra inning games to say nothing of the civil lawsuit for pain and suffering! At least they didn't make me throw up like in game 7 last year.

Sadly, the stupid college students in the Fenway area have sullied yet another joyous occasion. My wife had to work last night at an area hospital (she's a nurse on a trauma floor) and said they had a casualty last night and probably would have had more on her floor if not for the limited bed space. Apparently a 21 year old Yankee fan had his head caved in at some point during the evening. Not to mention the car flipping, burning and general mayhem these little idiots caused.

I hate to say it but I think the cops are going to have to enforce a zero tolernace on unapporved public gatherings. The crowd was fine for a while but lingered too long before the cops tried to disperse them.

For all of us who love them:

YEA - GO RED SOCKS!!!

Personally, I don't really have a particular team I root for-I just love underdogs!! So it's great when they can come back the way the RS did!

Tomm10, you are exactly right-mob mentality just escapes me.
We have this same problem every year whenever Kansas U plays Kansas State at Kansas State. Win or lose, there's almost always a riot.
The funny part-this is only true of football-I don't recall ever hearing it of the basketball games!!

but I thought the Yanks were the underdogs in this series..... that's what word around here was....

Well, yes, I heard that too. But I didn't even catch a game till the Socks were down by 3 games!! Add that to their 86 year dry spell (the c#rse-wonder if a comeback like that will finally break it? Hope so!!), hence my calling them underdogs.

As far as the odds makers were concerned it is true that the Red Sox were the favorites. However, you have to consider that since roughly the time Babe Ruth was traded to New York, the Yankees have almost always come out ahead of the Red Sox. There are a few exceptions of course as there were a few years where the Sox finished ahead of the Yanks in their division but when it comes to playoffs and head to head play, the Yankees have always had the advantage even when they had the statistically inferior team.

That, coupled with the fact that the Sox were down 3 games to none to start the series makes this win HUGE. Really. I can't put that in big enough letters. It is, in all seriousness, one of the biggest if not THE biggest series wins in Red Sox history. It goes against history (only baseball team in 101 years of playoff baseball to force a game 7 after being down 3-0 nevermind win it) on a couple of levels. The historic character of this team is to fold when its all on the line. For them to battle back and then follow through with the win is killer.

let me just start off by saying i'm a huge Mets fan.

and 1986 aside, nothing gave me more pleasure than seeing the Sox win last night.

watching the Yankees lose was something I'll never forget, just because it was the biggest choke job EVER. the yankees - the 180million dollar team - having blown a 3-0 series lead - at home. and the Sox didn't just beat them - they KILLED them. the yankees didnt even show up. all that money they throw at guys like a-rod and sheffield, and both of them did nothing when it mattered. and the best part is, you KNOW old King Georgie is going to throw a FIT. anyone notice that there wasnt one single camera shot of him? you dont think that he gave a direct order to not show him on camera, because he was seething so badly? you bet he did. i went for a walk after that game feeling like i was walking on air, like anything was possible now that the yankees lost to the sox when it mattered most.

and this is coming from a Mets fan

doesnt matter. that was game three. this was game seven. that's why it's so outrageous and so fitting. the yankees didnt get 19 runs when it MATTERED most. that wasn't an elimination game. this was. they didnt get that in game 4 when they could have swept the sox, they blew that game in the 9th. they could have won the first three games 30-0 each, the important thing is that they lost the last 4, with their top hitters hitting below .150 when they needed them most. pathetic.

tomm10, you enjoy this moment. millions of non-Yankee brats are silently pumping their fists and saying "hellz yeah" for the red sox on this one.

OMG - Last night, bottom of the 9th, 2 outs - the screen goes BLANK!!!!! Emergency Broadcast system can kiss my patootie! I was freaking out (later found out everyone else was too)...Thankfully, it came back on after a minute and we didn't miss much.

I'm glad I have a night or two where I can get to bed earlier!

Really - Ortiz, Schillings, and Damon best be gettin' some R.E.S.P.E.C.T! Who pitches like that with their ankle tendons sutured together, stitches in the ankle and blood seeping out?!

It's been a looooong time since I followed baseball. But, since I was born and raised in Massachusetts I've always had a soft spot for the Bosox and a dislike for the Yankees, especially under King George. I didn't watch any of the games, but I'm still happy for all of you true Bosox fans out there.
